5/5 ⭐ | 365 Days of Becoming by Julie Tomlinson

Writer: Jill ReyJill Rey

Reilly has the perfect marriage, college sweethearts with a beautiful daughter, what more could she ever want, but something is missing.  Discovering her true self in her 30s, Reilly is determined to be authentic to the sexuality she’s buried deep within her, her whole life.  Having never really been without a partner, combined with the fear of being alone, she’s determined to go a full year without a relationship, focusing just on herself.

As “365 Days of Becoming” unraveled before us, each chapter brought us ever closer to understanding Reilly more fully, as she began to understand herself.  Memories were pulled forth as the year carried ever on, providing readers a glimpse of Reilly’s life leading to now.  Woven amongst her present-day trials, tribulations, and revelations, we are shown who Reilly is at the heart of it all.

A love story at its core, author Julie Tomlinson teaches us the power of loving oneself, living your authentic life, new beginnings, and inspiring realizations.  Despite the fictional nature of this story, the driving messages and parallels to Tomlinson’s own life made this a vulnerable and raw read.  As we reflect on Reilly’s life, her decisions, and her year of becoming, we can’t help but bask in the beauty of it all.  Told in such a powerful way, Tomlinson pulls forth such an emotional coming out of oneself.  From family, friends, situationships, lovers, parenting, and even a femme domme, nothing stays in the closet as labels and past lives are shed.

Readers feel the freedom of Reilly as Tomlinson writes a bit of herself into this trucker hat wearing, late in life lesbian as she emerges from her people-pleasing shackles.
