It’s likely we all know someone who has been impacted significantly by cancer in some way. Whether ourselves, a family member, or a friend, cancer seems widespread. Everyone’s cancer journey and experience are obviously different but what makes author Jim Gano’s book stand out is his mentality through it all.
When diagnosed with cancer the people surrounding you suddenly take on new roles, a partner often becomes a caregiver, a medical professional plays a much bigger role in your life, and a coworker may have new functions to play as well. The weight of cancer affects many, the drugs, the side effects, and the mental toll of it all. Gano offers a fresh perspective. He doesn’t deny the hardship, the tough days, and the struggle, but he shares his mentality through it all, his urgency to fight on, and his goals for the future.
From the voice of local sports to a community leader, grandpa, husband, and father, he has too much to be proud of and he isn’t about to let his battle with cancer define him. I loved the perspective he provided, from not letting his obituary one-day mention cancer, to his active combat of the label, and even his various motivational quotes.
Gano shows how he maintains clear eyes, a full heart, and a can’t lose mentality as he shares with us his own journey. Goal after goal, Gano wakes up every morning ready to tackle the next one.
